Why should I get my boiler serviced?
Boiler servicing is one of those things that can be easily missed or ignored. However, it could be the key to identifying issues early on before they escalate and become costly problems. Here are some of the main reasons why you get our heating engineer to check your boiler regularly.
Uncover issues before they escalate
Small issues can grow into big problems if undetected early enough. By ensuring your boiler is running as it should, you can save money on future repairs. Our experienced engineers can detect any minor issues to help avoid future breakdowns and costly repairs.
Your and your family’s safety
Getting your boiler serviced regularly will make sure it’s running not only efficiently but also safely. A broken boiler can be extremely dangerous with 250 hospitalisations a year recorded as a result of non-fire-related carbon monoxide poisoning between 2001 and 2010 in England and Wales. Unlike gas, carbon monoxide doesn’t have any smell (or taste) therefore it is hard to detect it.
Save money on energy bills
Getting your boiler serviced, of course, is another expense. However, it is a cost that could save you money too. During the service, one of our engineers will carry out a number of checks to make sure your boiler is working efficiently. This will, in return, save you money in the long run as a more efficient boiler costs less to run. Something to keep in mind is that boiler efficiency depends on its age and the type you have.
Boiler servicing takes less than 30 minutes
Let’s take a look at what’s involved in boiler servicing. Our engineer will begin by inspecting your boiler and its functions to make sure they are running as they should. They’ll then check for corrosion and leaks, ensuring the gas pressure is correct and inspect the flue to make sure it’s not emitting any dangerous fumes. The whole service will take less than 30 minutes. When it’s done, our engineers will leave you a completed checklist. Make sure you keep it somewhere safe for reference afterwards.
Legal requirement for landlords
By law a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer must check gas appliances and flues annually to ensure they’re safe to use. The required checks include boilers other gas appliances such as stoves and fireplaces that are owned by the landlord. It’s worth noting that if you are a tenant, your landlord is not responsible for safety checks on gas appliances owned by you or any flues that only connect to your own gas appliances.
How often should I book boiler servicing?
With many boiler warranties you are required to have a regular service to make sure your boiler is safe and sound. An annual boiler service will meet most warranty and business insurance requirements, though it’s best if you check with your insurance provider to be 100% sure.
The best time of the year to get your boiler serviced is summer. Not only will you be making sure you are ready for cold winter months when you’ll need your boiler the most, but also our engineers tend to be less busy during these months, meaning they can get to you quicker.
After your boiler’s been serviced, don’t forget to write down the date and set a reminder to book the next one in.
